Ok so it’s not quite officially spring yet, wishful thinking! There are, however, some glimmers of longer hours of daylight ahead as I realised (working in my studio at Haarlem Artspace https://www.haarlemartspace.co.uk) that it was no longer totally dark outside at 4pm! We also have some daffodils, snowdrops and crocuses popping up in our garden, having escaped being dug up by the cat. He’s clearly multi talented that cat- as well as attempting gardening, right now he’s sneaking his way towards my keyboard to help me write this post- anyone with a cat, a garden and a computer will feel my pain 😹!

But anyway current news – The ‘Introspection’ exhibition at Creative Melbourne Gallery Derbyshire https://www.creativemelbourne.co.uk is up and running until 15th March.

As well as exhibiting as part of this event I’ve also got extra work to add for the pop-up show on the last day. Being a jewellery making scientist- or more accurately ‘retired’ scientist, I still can’t help using a bit of experimentation to improve an existing process if I think it’s warranted. In this case, playing with different materials has led to the development of a novel way of making hollow sculptural forms in silver, using sustainable materials. My new method is more environmentally friendly (and are lot easier) than the traditional method, which is for making hollow beads rather than hollow non-bead forms. The traditional method is not only time consuming and tricky, it also generates non-biodegradable waste. So I’ll be having a go at YouTube video making so show jewellers how to make hollow forms easily and sustainably.

I’ll endeavor to put this on the website, followed later by a simple spoon making tutorial I’ve been asked to do on instagram. I’ll keep you posted with progress in the next blog🫰
